Lilla Rose In Review

Lilla Rose Review

Good Morning everyone. I hope you all are well and had a great Thanksgiving weekend (if you celebrate Thanksgiving where you are).  Ours was hectic but all in all was a great time had by everyone. I volunteered to work extra hours at my part time job during the day before and the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday). As many others had requested or called off to go shopping. I knew these days would be hectic and long days and in my job they prefer for you to have your hair pulled back so while getting ready for work I put my hair up using my Lilla Rose hair clips and bobby pins. I have rather unruly curls and these products work wonders for containing it all and keeping it all in place until I take them out. So these are definitely my go to for work and any other time I want to keep my hair back instead of all over the place. This Black Friday as predicted was extremely busy and my hair stayed in place all day. This is just one reason I love these things.

The first product I use is the Lilla Rose Hair Clip. There are so many reasons I love them. One is they are beautiful. I am not one to adorn my hair with fancy baubles but these are so beautiful I love to wear them in my hair. There are so many choices and styles to choose from that you can almost always find something you like that fits your style.  They even have ones specific to seasons or holidays.

Another great product I have tried is the Bobbie pins. They do great to hold back the hair that is not long enough to pull back into the Hair Clips. I have never really used Bobbie pins often before using the Lilla Rose Bobbies because they always got very tangled in my curls and would rip a decent chunk of my hair out. The Lilla Rose Bobbies however have never done that. They are an ease to put in and an ease to remove as well.

Another great plus to the Lilla Rose products is that they have different sizes for different types of hair. If you have thick hair you are covered. If you have thin or short hair you are also covered.  I have a few different sizes myself to accommodate when I have my hair cut different ways.

You can use them for almost any occasions as well as you can use them for all sorts of different hair styles. I personally love to put my hair up in a bun but you can just pull part of your hair up or do many different fancier hair dos with them as well.

They also grip my hair well but do not pull or give me a tension headache like some hair clips do. They hold my hair in place but do not cause breakage. Which is wonderful because I loose enough hair as it is. For example, I wore it for almost 20 hours straight and was working the majority of that time and even after all of that when I pulled it out to let my hair down it didn’t pull even once and I had no tension headache. Any other clips or hair ties I have tried have always caused me pain in one way or another. These Lilla Rose clips are a different story.

If you have never heard of them I suggest you check them out. I am sure you could find wonderful products for yourself or a friend or family member.

Now, they don’t only have hair clips they also have hair pins and hair bands as well.  Which also work for all sorts hair types and styles as well.

If you are interested in checking out their products you can find them here on their website or on their Facebook page as well. If you are sure what to do you can talk to Deb Wielhouwer of Love Leaving Legacy and independent stylist for Lilla Rose. She is a wonderful person and would be a great help to you with any of your questions.

Living Books We love

LIVING BOOKS WE LOVE

living books we love
living books we love

Since we have started homeschooling our ways of going about teaching our children have been slowly changing and evolving into something that more so fits our children’s way of learning. We started out with a very strict schedule which I believe helped bridge the gap between public schools to homeschooling for our oldest son, Little A, who was just starting 4th grade at the time.

“It just seemed like the perfect way for children to learn”

As I started to do more and more research into the different style of homeschooling I became more and more enthralled with the idea of Charlotte Mason style schooling. It just seemed like the perfect way for children to learn, but I just wasn’t sure how our sons would take to it.  Our oldest thrives on structure so I wanted to make sure he still had the structure he needed while still having more freedom in his learning.

“They make it engaging and captivating to read”

Now one of the big things I started noticing from the beginning of my research into the Charlotte Mason method was a big part of it was something called living books. These are basically books that are rich in language and information but do not read as a text book would. They make it engaging and captivating to read so that while your child may not fully realize it they are gaining so much more knowledge from said books.

“the idea of using Living books to teach our children seemed to be the perfect idea for them as lovers of the written word”

We come from a long line of readers on my side of the family. It probably helps having a Librarian as a Grandmother. As a child, and still I have more books than I know what to do with. This trait seems to have rubbed off on our Oldest, whose room consists of mostly bookcases. Our youngest is only 2 and does not yet actually read but still loves books and reading all the same. I am hoping this means he will be as avid a reader as the rest of us. So as you can tell the idea of using Living books to teach our children seemed to be the perfect idea for them as lovers of the written word.

“I sincerely hope you and your family enjoy learning from these living books as much as we did.”

This is how we made our start, and I am hoping this can help anyone else just dipping their toes into the rich teaching method that is Charlotte Mason, by providing you with a sample list of what we have been reading.  I have already done two smaller list previously of books we have read or hope to have read, and you can find them listed at the end of this article. I sincerely hope you and your family enjoy learning from these living books as much as we did.

So without further ado I give to you our most recent list of living books that we love.

Eight Dolphins of Katrina

My oldest son, Little A, absolutely loved this book. We were learning about natural disasters that were happening currently and read this to learn about some form the past as well. He loves dolphins and so this drew him in even more because of his love for the creatures featured in this book.

Drowned City

Little A also really enjoyed this book as well. It was still on the topic of natural disasters, and the same natural disaster from the previous book. This one focused more on the impact this natural disaster had on the people of New Orleans.

Aesop’s Fables

Both our boys love these. We have been reading them together before our youngest’s nap-times and at night right before bedtime. It is wonderful to find books that both our children enjoy reading or being read to them as they are 8 years apart in age. So this is definitely a living book we love.

Where The Wild Things Are

This has always been a favorite of ours. When talking about Living Books We Love this is almost always one we mention. Our oldest loved this book when he was younger and really still does. M, our youngest is really enjoying this book now as well. It is such a great story. We have read this a few times this past week and will likely read it a few more this week.

Jane Eyre

This one is one of my favorites. I absolutely loved reading it in school and read it many time after as well. My boys have not read this one yet but I wanted to add it in because it is just one of my living books I love, and I can’t wait until I can share it with my children.

Treasure Island

Our oldest son has read this multiple times since he was in 2nd grade and every time he has enjoyed it. This is definitely a living book we love. He hopes he can read it to his little brother soon.

A Christmas Carol

Our oldest has also read this one over and over since around 2nd grade and seems to enjoy it more each time he does. I think we will read this together closer to Christmas.  This is another Living book we love.

November Goals

My November Goals are once again a bit late but I guess better late then never. I worked more on my goals this past month than in months before that. So hopefully this goal setting is really working and it will help me keep on track. Hopefully I can meet even more goals this month than I did last month.

November Goals
My Goals for November 2017

NOVEMBER GOALS

Blog

  • I would like to try and keep working at getting my page views back up to where they used to be (I would love to consistently meet my highest page view day last month I had a handful of days where my page views were really close to my highest yet).
  • I would love to be more consistent in my articles I post.  Right now I am trying to at least write one a month until this get organized here at our new place. By one a month I mean other than these goal articles of course.
  • I want to tweak the style (colours, layout, ect) to make it a bit easier to view. I am still not sure how I am going to do this.

Pinterest

  • I want to find at least 20 group boards in my field of interest to request to join. I am keeping this the same as last month. I didn’t do well with this one. I did get one response for a group board so that is better than nothing. – So far I have found and requested to be added to 5 group boards. I have been added to two so far.
  • I know this one is out of my control but I hope to have at least 15 actually approve me to join and pin to their group boards. As I said above I did get one response in my favor and was added to the group board.
  • I want to get more consistent with pinning to the group boards I have and hopefully will join soon. Right now I pin at least 4 of my pins to all the group boards I can 2 days a week. I really fell behind with this this past month and I could tell because my page views definitely dropped a bit.
  • I would also like to get my pins repinned more often then they are now. I am hoping a combination of adding more group boards and pinning more regularly will help with this.
  • I would like to gain more followers on Pinterest as well. I am trying to find more promotion groups on Facebook to get my social media sites spread farther out and hopefully get more follows.

Facebook

  • I want to be more consistent with posting on my Facebook page for my blog.  I was a bit more consistent last month, but I could still do better this month.
  • I would like to gain more likes/followers to my Facebook page. Right now I have 100 likes and 99 followers. I would love to make it to 125 this month if at all possible. So that would be gaining 25 more people. My goal last month was to make it to 100 which I did but not by the end of the month. So I gained about 18 likes by almost the end of the month so hopefully 25 is doable as well for the month of November.
  • I am going to work towards also checking my Facebook page a little more often. I did a bit better at this last month and hopefully the month of November will be better than last.

Instagram

  • I would love to remember to post more on the blog’s Instagram. I have posted the past two days so hopefully I can start posting more often and hopefully that will help people see my post more often.
  • Along with that I would like to figure out how to best utilize Instagram with my blog.  I need to read up more on this still.  IF you have any tips please let me know.

These are my goals for the month of November so hopefully I will stick to them. I did decently last month so here is to this month being even better.  If any of you with experience have any tips feel free to let me know. I can use any help I can get.
